Book Review: Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil

Midnight in the Garden of Good and EvilMidnight in the Garden of Good and Evil by John Berendt

My rating: 2 of 5 stars

This is a true story about the town of Savannah, GA and a murder (and subsequent trial) that took place there back in the '80s.

I really tried to like this book but it was just so-so. I don't know what it was, but it kept me just interested enough to keep me listening. I think if I'd have had something else more appealing I would've stopped listening altogether. It did make me want to visit Savannah to see all the great old houses, but that's about it.

Funny, I had a similar reaction to the book. In fact, I don't think I finished it. But, if you want to see the architecture without travelling, you can rent the movie. Which isn't supposed to be much good, but I think it was filmed in the area. You can mute it!

Yeah I was really surprised I didn't like it because there were so many good reviews online. People loved this book and thought it was so engaging and awesome and I just didn't.

Strange, I LOVED that book. Were you listening to a book on tape? Sometimes when the voice over sucks, I tune out. I did just listen to a good one though... Devil in the White City about a serial killer at the Chicago World's Fair. Great story, engaging actor.

Really?! Dang... maybe I should have listened. Weird how your opinion of a book can be so different based on how you experienced it. I find I generally enjoy books more when I listen to them, but definitely not the case all the time.

I've actually been meaning to read Devil in the White City for a long time. I'll have to put that on my audiobook list... I'm always looking for new ones!

I'll just go ahead and needlessly chime in to say that Devil in the White City is fantastic and I second the reommendation!
