In order to keep up and improve my level of fitness, I've decided on a handful of fitness goals I can work towards. Here they are in no certain order:
1. Continuously be able to run at least 3 miles.
2. Be able to run at least 6 miles without stopping by the end of the running season.
3. Do 15 full pushups at a time by the end of the year, with a constant progression of 1 per month (I can currently do 4).
4. Be able to do 4 chin-ups by the end of the year (1 every 3 months).
5. Hike up to the waterfall in Adam's Canyon without having to stop and rest.
which naturally leads me to...
6. Take over the world by Christmas. How hard could it be?
sounds like a plan to me, but you are much more ambitious than I. I'll just watch your success and take part in it by cheering you on. So " you go girl!"
ReplyDeleteOh great... does this mean I have to start being extra nice to you? ;-)
ReplyDeleteSounds like a good plan. I'm not sure I could do one pull up if I wanted.
ReplyDeleteWhen you said you could only do 4 push ups I decided to see how many I could do. It came out to 10.5. So I bet you can do more than 4. IF not, doing the BL videos will help. I have gotten stronger in my upper and lower body since doing them. I have definition in my muscles now. I actually need to get heavier weights. Anyway, keep it up!
Annie, I don't doubt you can do more pushups than I can. Maybe I could do 5... I need to try again. BUT, don't forget you've been carrying a baby around all day for a year. Mommy arms are super strong! Although, maybe we should arm wrestle, just to see... :D
ReplyDeleteTWENTY POUNDS! Holy Kazoo! "Wahoo" is right! Good for you. Those pounds just want to stick on... I saw a science show about that; apparently our bodies (in a way that is not well-understood) seem to very much want to maintain our weight--whatever that happens to be--and if we lose more than a small amount of weight at once, our bodies tend to respond by generating "uncontrollable hunger pangs." Anyway, I was struck by how hard it is to lose weight (as we all know TOO well!) and so, that's AWESOME!
ReplyDeleteTaking over the world by Christmas seems much easier than achieving all the goals on your list! I'm feeling goal-fever as a result!
The pull-ups part seems particularly hardcore. How awesome are you?!
I agree with Annie, pull ups are definately a challenge. At one point I worked out on a continuous basis and right as I was able to do one pull up I stopped working out. However, I wouldn't say it's impossible and just think how awesome your arms will look!
ReplyDeleteGirlie, I didn't think you had twenty pounds to lose! Hooray for you!
ReplyDeleteI like how tangible your goals are. I think I'll have to try that. My goals have always been more activity oriented, as in, "Work out 3 times a week for at least thirty minutes." But pushing for something specific is cool. I like it. I feel that would be more motivating.
Hey, I'm going to chime in again 'cuz I so agree with Rachel. I didn't know you had 20 lbs. to lose, EITHER! And I do think the tangible goals are more "motivating" than just trying to exercise regularly. I've started setting little challenges for myself, and it's WAY FUNNER.
ReplyDelete(That's the technical term physical trainers use: Way Funner.)
I never thought I'd associate RUNNING with way-funness but your posts about it do make it fun to think about.
The. End.
Congrats on the 20 pound weight loss! (And I agree with everyone else - you sure didn't look like you had 20 to lose!).
ReplyDeleteGreat fitness goals! I hope you keep us posted on how they are going.
