Since this is my 'random' life story, I'm interrupting my family travel log with some guns. No, not my amazingly ripped muscles (spectacular as they are...).... REAL guns. Made of steel. And power. And really tough things.
Last weekend Seth and I went out to the west desert with my parents to do some good old fashion shooting. Ok, maybe it wasn't 'old fashioned' per se, but it was fun and we liked it. However, before the shooting began we had to find some wild horses. What else were we going to use for target practice? I jest! I jest! We just looked at the horses (and maybe corralled them with our car) and admired their untamed beauty.
The wild west.
It was a very windy day... note the dust storm in the background.
After watching the horses for a while we loaded up our weapons and did some shooting... Fred style. My dad likes to mix things up a bit with rapid fire, quick draw, and timed obstacle courses. Not your average plinking by any means...
Dad starts things out with the 357 Magnum revolver.
Then it was onto the quick draw with a 9mm Smith and Wesson.
I must have been surprised that I actually hit something.
Next was the obstacle course with the AR-15. Most fun I ever had losing.
Next came the hunting rifles. I got to try out the lever action 30/30. Sweet.
We pretty much fit the profile of gun nuts.
Even Mom joined us... didn't do any shooting this time but she had the fastest knitting needles in the west!
I am the law.

Such beautiful photos!
And, neither of these comments are on topic, but: TWENTY TWO FOLLOWERS! Holy crap.
And, I'm so curious to discover what you think of the growing-up-with-polygamy book and whether I should read it.
I'm jealous. I just finished reading "These is My Words" which takes place in the old west near Tucson. Lots of wild west bad guys, horses, tough women etc. After reading it I was thinking it'd be fun to go and plink away sometime soon (which is really my level any way). I always just get frustrated when I try to hit a clay pigeon or complete an shooting obstacle course or really anything that requires "skill" of any kind. How did you do in regards to your shooting skills?
Love your photos! The last one cracks me up.
Heidi... yeah twenty two followers! Just like my age! :D
The polygamy book is really good. But also very scandalous and enraging. Don't read it unless you are ready to be horrified and really pissed off.
Corinne, was that book worth reading then? Sounds different than my usual choice so maybe I should give it a shot. Also, I'm not that good at shooting. I lost all the challenges (big surprise) but it was fun. I thought I did better during the obstacle course because I'd shoot and the target would fall but then when we went to check them out mine had just fallen and weren't actually broken. So I got pissed off and just stomped on one. :D
Hmm. I'm not sure I'm in the mood to be infuriated.
But I know EXACTLY what book to grab when I am. :D
Thanks for the feedback.
Your horse photos are beautiful! I had to smile at the cuteness of your mom sitting on the sidelines knitting! :)
